Lisa Maldonado
Bio
Lisa Maldonado was born in Boston. Her parents immigrated to the United States from Mexico and Argentina. As a child, her family lived in Mexico and Pennsylvania before settling in Miami, Florida. After completing her studies, Lisa moved to New York to pursue a career in public health. Professionally, Lisa has devoted her career to working on reproductive health issues, especially as they affect women, adolescents, and immigrants. She has worked with large family planning programs in Latin America and Africa and, for over 10 years, worked with local New York City primary care clinics providing health care to Latinx women and adolescents. She most recently co-founded and served as the executive director of the Reproductive Health Access Project, a national nonprofit organization dedicated to expanding and protecting access to reproductive health care across the country. Lisa has served on various boards, including the finance committee of the Society of Family Planning and has been active within the American Public Health Association–having served as co-chair of the Association’s Abortion Task Force, President of its Latino Caucus, and as a Governing Councilor for the Sexual and Reproductive Health section. She currently serves as secretary on the board of the ACT, the Abortion Coalition for Telemedicine Access. Lisa presents frequently at reproductive health and public health conferences and has been published in scholarly journals. Lisa holds a Master’s in Economics from the University of Michigan and a Master’s in Public Health from Columbia University.
Lisa lives in the Prospect Heights neighborhood of Brooklyn. There she raised two sons, now 25 and 21. Lisa is active in her local community. She has served on various committees in her coop apartment building, including serving on the board as a director and treasurer. A few years ago Lisa helped document Prospect Heights’ architecture in an effort to obtain historical status for the neighborhood. In 2023 she joined Brooklyn’s Community Board 8, representing Prospect Heights, Crown Heights, and Weeksville. She also works as a poll worker during local and national elections. Lisa enjoys reading, baking, biking, swimming, yoga, crocheting, photography, and spending time with family and friends.
